Virtual Exchange for Four Universities

In the autumn term of 2021, students from four universities collaborated in international teams online. The interdisciplinary project involved 67 students: language majors from our department, tourism majors from Poland (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań) and Spain (University of León), and business students from the Netherlands (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences).

The virtual exchange was titled “Towards a More Sustainable Future: New Trends in Tourism” and focused on finding virtual solutions to city tourism. During the seven weeks of collaboration, the students compared the touristic websites of their cities, discussed tourism trends and discourse, arranged online meetings, collected materials, and created digital promotional materials for virtual tourism.

Here is a nice example of the outcome of group work. It is a creative and colourful blog that gives a virtual tour of the four cities involved in the project: Jyväskylä, Poznań, Utrecht, and León. The authors are Minna Aho, Adrianna Gredecka, Gabriela Jaworska, Sadb Dola, Leonie Stürwald, and Ángela García González.

More examples of students' work: a game proposal (in a video), an Instagram account, and Tik Tok videos.

Many thanks to all participants of the virtual exchange for their contribution!

The teachers who arranged and mentored the collaboration: Katarzyna Radke (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland), Ivonne Dekker (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands), Robert O’Dowd (University of León, Spain), and Judit Háhn (University of Jyväskylä, Finland).
